Plugin Section on Manage My Directory

  • Go to the Plugins section on the sidebar of Manage My Directory and search the "Post Categories Plugin".

  • After that, you need to select the Type of Post that you want to add categories to in the "Select a Post Type" search box on the top right of this section. (In this example we selected the category "Strength")

  • When you are on your desired type of post you can start adding categories. You need to start by adding first your top categories. You can do so by clicking the top right button: "+Add Top Category".

  • When you click the "+ Add Top Category" Button a new pop-up module will appear, where you can type the name of the category that you want to add, and save it accordingly.

  • When you save the changes the new category appears on the table, This table will then prompt you to either edit or delete the new category, and you will be free to do so as necessary.

  • To add a Subcategory you need to select the "Subcategory" tab on the top left hand corner of the plugin. Then you can proceed to add a category with the "+ Add Sub Category" button on the top right corner of the module.

  • When you click the "+ Add Sub Category" Button a new pop-up module will appear, where you can type the name of the Subcategory that you want to add and select the associated top category. Then you can click to save the new sub category.

  • To add a Sub-Sub-Category you need to select the "Sub-Sub" tab on the top left corner of the plugin. Then click the "+ Add Sub Sub Category" button on the top right corner of the module.

  • When you click the "+ Add Sub-Sub Category" Button a new pop-up module will appear, where you can type the name of the Sub-Sub Category that you want to add and select the associated Top and Sub categories respectively.

Add the new categories module on your post creation forms

  • To add the new categories module on your post creation forms, you need to add a new custom field on the post creation form for each type of content you created categories for. To do so you need to go to "Toolbox" on the sidebar of manage my directory and click on"Form Manager"

  • When you are in the "Form Manager", you need to search the post or posts that you want to add different categories to, in this example we selected the "Feature - Photos" form. A good tip to remember is that all posts have the word "Feature - " in front of the name of the post.
  • Click on "Actions" and select "Customize".

  • After this you need to add the new categories section to the form, to do so follow these steps:
    • Add a new field by clicking the "Add Field +" button on any existing field in the form.
    • Select the "Custom HTML" option on the "Type of Field" section.
    • On the "Field Label" Section you need to type "[widget=Save Category Post]".
    • In the "Display Settings" section you need to turn "ON" all the fields: Input View, Display View, Lead Previews, Include in Emails, Table View.
    • Remember to save changes after adding all these settings to the new field.

Add The Search Module To All Your Post Sidebars

To do so you must add the following widget: "Bootstrap Theme - Search Module - Dynamic Post Categories" to the sidebars of your choice.

Usually all posts on Brilliant Directories use the "Post Search Result" sidebar, and if this sidebar is not already customized you will need to customize it yourself.

If you have custom sidebars for custom post types, you will need to manually add the search module widget to those sidebars too.

Member Profile (Create Post Page)

  • In each type of post that has the access to add different Top, Sub or Sub-Sub Categories there will be a section called "Select One or More Than One Top, Sub or Sub-Sub Categories".

  • In this section, you can select the categories that you want this type of post to be in. The image below explains which is the top, Sub and Sub-Sub Category, you can check off the ones you want to associate to the post you are creating.

  • If you want to delete the categories from a post, you need to edit the specific post and below the "select one or more than one top, sub or sub-sub categories", you will find a section that lists the selected categories with a red x button that you can click to remove the category from the post. Then hit save to make your changes effective.

Post Search Box Filter

  • You can search by multiple Top, Sub or Sub-Sub Categories by using the post search box dynamic filter. You only need to check off the category options you want to search for and clicking the "Search Now" button and then the page will reload with the filtered post results.
  • To clear the filters that you selected before you can click on the "Clear Filters" button and the page will reload with the categories unselected.

Whats new with the Post Filter plug in?

On the top right section of the plug in page, you will see the "Settings" button.

When clicking on this, you will see the following options, you can click on each of these to toggle on or off:

Expand Categories

This option is to choose weather you want the categories expanded (ON) or collapsed (OFF) when visiting the page.

However, when turned OFF, you will get results of posts that contain just english, just spanish or both.

Keyword Search

This setting will allow you to add (ON) or remove(OFF) the keyword search from the filters.
